Best ways to get ticks of doggy?

i have a husky mix and i live in the boonies a well wooded area. my brother takes him in the woods alot and i find 20 ticks on him afterwards. unfrotanlty i pulled one off and it made my dog bleed a few days ago. just now i found a 2 on the same spot and im worried it is becoming infected because it is red in the area. so when i pulled the tick off i pull a little bit of my dogs skin off. just like a speck but enough to make him bleed. so how can i get the tick to latch off my dog's skin so i can get it off? heat up a pair of tweezers and touch it? also what are some reliable tick repellant brands the one i bought isn't working :/
